    You could buy a Tecsun PL-330 for under $80 U$D, and will beat the pants off either of those and it has selectable bandwidths and synchronous detector. It's the "LITTLE RADIO THAT COULD" However I myself do have a Radio Shack DX-300 that I got in 1979 and I'm going to drag it out and try it again, along with my Drake R8. I have another Radio Shack copycat A Uniden CR-2021 DX-400 which is some sort of Sangean Radio.

    Iv,e had a few of these r1000,s over the years ive been a "ham" Iv,e also had a couple of dx300,s , as a comparison I would say that the dx300 is an excellent receiver for a budget price,although the kenwood has the"edge" over it, I still have an r1000, which I bought just over a year ago now on ebay, mine is in mint condition and for £106.00 including postageit,s a bargain!! they are still out there at reasonable prices and you maybe lucky like me and get a pristine condition one, my r1000 is right up there with my other rx,s being a drake spr4, a yeasu 7700, and a realistic dx394! it also keeps up with the receive on my icom7300, and my icom 756 pro 3 txr,s so if you find one that looks clean, "snap it up!" you won,t be dissapointed, good dx es 73,s M0TJP, Devon...

    For high HF and low VHF, I made a hand-rotatable open (not folded) wideband dipole that in theory has a centre frequency of 35.5 MHz. At 3.5 metres above ground, there are two aluminium rods mounted on a plastic polyethylene kitchen cutting board. Each length is 2.0 metres, for a total 4.0 metre length. A 300/75-ohm balun connects the dipole terminals via a 37 metre length RG6 coax to the shack. The vertical mast is clamped to a steel fence post. This is a tidy compact backyard antenna system that works well for overseas DX from circa 25 to 55 MHz. This receiving system can receive 3300 km 0.1 Watt TX ERP 30.877 MHz Perth, VK6 transmissions via daily F2.

    I think that CB radio has always had big problems with people who use these very large linier amplifiers and power microphones echo chambers roger bleeps etc it's always been like that and nothing gets done about it and Ofcom don't care about the CB or amateur radio bands they just leave us to it basically and let us all get on with the on going problems on CB and amateur radio they are not interested in us anymore and they have far worser things to do and they just turn a blind eye to CB and amateur radio and just let everyone get on with it that's what I have been told by a friend off the radio years ago. Thanks everyone and best 73's cheers. Stephen M3SNV 73's.

    Hi again, on my Brownie (identical to your Belair) on the 3 Trimmer capacitors on the bottom of the radio, the mica sheets have disintegrated, it will receive on MW but not SW. I ordered new mica sheets. Can you advise as to exactly what these trimmers (the ones along the bottom of the radio) the two left ones seem to control SW the one furthest to the right is fiddly but the radio will play MW if I play with it. i have to cut to fit the mica sheets for these tiny Trimmers. Can you advise what the 3 trimmers nearest the tuning capacitor (Air Gap) what they do? Any information is greatly appreciated. I watch this Belair video quite often. Many Thanks -Barry

    • @SpectreOZ
      @SpectreOZ 2 года назад

      Thanks for your question... it's actually a "feed through" capacitor, one part solders the the vertical shielding whilst the other connects to the next stage of the circuit, I was unable to find one locally but the Elmer Ham (who supplied the circuit) was happy to supply the odd little capacitor.

    This antenna works fine. but you have mounted it too low. A dipole antenna has to be (minimum) 1/4 wave high. In the case of 11m (27Mhz) the minimum height is 2.75 meters above the ground. Since a dipole of these dimensions cannot be perfectly horizontal, I advise placing it at least 3.5mt above the ground. For the rest... very good!! 73-51

    I have detected similar signals in my region. I made an enquiry to a university specialising in signal imaging and processing. They were very prompt to respond and confirmed, in my case, that the signals are radar signals with control of carrier and waveform. (The waterfall signature would slow, reverse and speed up occasionally and that made me curious).

    After 24 years of pretty heavy use, the silicone-insulated cable for the handpiece finally failed. Teardown (it has one large transformer and a single PCB with three or four trimpots for calibration) yielded that a single conductor had failed right at the point where the clamp secures the cable in the main unit. I replaced the cable with a piece of four core with PVC insulation, and when that fails in a decade I'll probably replace it with a proper silicone-insulated cable.
